Pros
- Very simple to install. The BIGGEST caveat is that you should
disable your onboard audio in the bios before getting started or weird
configuration glitches will occur (no crashes though, thank goodness).
- Sound is very clean with my headphones except in certain odd configs
(see cons). When I use the dedicated headphone output, default control
panel settings are fine. I ended up disabling TruStudio Pro because I
generally don't like to post-process my audio (it's just a personal
preference).
- CrystalVoice is hilarious and awesome. The gender voice-change made
my friend think that I was hitting on him. Great for MMORPGs or FPS
games.
- 3d positioning works. It's nice.
- No conflicts out of the box. That's a big plus. I've had older
Creative cards and there was always something that caused me annoying
problems.

Cons
- It's new. So it's a bit pricey. To be expected, though.
- When you enable DolbyLive in Cinematics, I could hear hissing in my
headphones. I don't use DolbyLive anyways and it probably doesn't even
make sense to do so with headphones. So it's not a deal breaker.
- When listening to audio via Firefox, if you switch from one audio
output to another, you lose your audio until you restart Firefox.
Again, this is a weird bug that I don't care too much about. (Firefox
saves practically all your browsing sessions). It might not even
happen with other browsers.
- Lack of good packaged software. Comes with WaveStudio, Alchemy,
Music Server (i.e. glorified media player) and some trial Creative
product that I removed immediately. There are a lot of better free
alternatives. I wish there was a 3d sound demo to "excite" you about
the 3d capabilities of the card.

One Act Competition Parent Letter

THE FOLLOWING MUST BE PRINTED AND SIGNED TO GO TO THE FESTIVAL

March 4, 2013

To the TRIBUTE cast, crews, and parents:

This Friday, March 8,  and Saturday, March 9, we take our one act play, TRIBUTE, to the Regional Drama Competition at Thornton Academy in Saco. All cast and crew members are required to attend both days of the festival, attend all performances, and ride both to and from Thornton on our school bus.

We depart Friday at approximately 3:30 P.M. from Ludlow Street.  We will return at approximately 10:30 P.M.  On Saturday the bus leaves Deering at 8:30 A.M. and returns some time after 11:00 P.M.  Please ask your child to phone you when we leave Thornton so that you can be waiting for the arrival of the bus.

TRIBUTE will be performed Saturday evening.  We are the second play that evening.  The doors open at 6:30 P.M. If you plan to attend please arrive BEFORE 6:15 P.M. so that you will be assured of seeing the Deering play. There is an admission charge.  It is six or seven dollars.

After the session the three judges provide an oral critic for each school.  The judges then tabulate scores, select two schools to advance to states (one Class A and one Class B), and choose students to receive special recognition.

While the students wait for the results, they enjoy a dance.

We will return after the awards assembly.  It is impossible to give you a specific return time.  We should be back to Deering at about 11:30 P.M.  It could be later or earlier.

If we advance to the state competition we will perform at Camden Heights School March 22 and 23.

Please send food or money with your child.  If you give them permission to leave the Thornton Academy to buy food in town you must send a signed note. NO STUDENTS WILL BE ALLOWED TO LEAVE THE ARTS BUILDING AFTER LUNCH ON SATURDAY.

Students will need meals for Friday evening, Saturday lunch, and dinner.
If parents wish to send food for the group, (snacks, sandwiches, water), these would be appreciated.

Mr. Michael Kennedy and Ms. Kathleen Harris will be on site for the entire festival.

If you have questions please email me at:  harrik@portlandschools.org

If you need to contact me at the festival my cell phone number is: 207-699-9193.

Thank you for your support,
